GMS Selected for METI’s Demonstration Project
“Research of Infrastructure Preparation for Bilateral Credit Acquisition”

グローバルモビリティサービス株式会社

Global Mobility Service, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President/CEO: Tokushi Nakashima, hereafter referred to as "GMS") has been selected by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as a demonstration project for the FY2019 Research of Infrastructure Preparation for Bilateral Credit Acquisition (Study of international contribution quantification and*JCM feasibility).
It will be the first time for a JCM research to be conducted in the Philippines. *JCM (Joint Crediting Mechanism) is a system to cooperate with developing countries for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by providing leading low carbon technologies, products, systems, services and infrastructure, in which the result of reduction is assessed as contribution by both partner countries and Japan.

<GMS’s Activities and Overview of the Project>

GMS has been tackling existing social problems such as “lack of employment opportunities,” by creating a system which enables auto loans to be used by the poor who, up until now, did not possess the ability to pass credit assessments. On the other hand, we are not only committed to the creation of employment, but also work towards the reduction of air pollution, by promoting the shift of old degraded vehicles to new alternatives with less exhaust emissions.

The Feasibility Study (hereinafter referred to as “FS”) will reveal how much difference it makes in terms of carbon dioxide emissions, by replacing degraded vehicles with high emissions, to new alternative vehicles. By visualizing the potential of CO2 reduction through Japan’s developed technology on a global scale, the research will be conducted in view of making policy recommendations towards CO2 emission control. The results of this FS will be a foundation to realize both the reduction of environmental load and the acceleration of economic development not only in specific regions/countries but also in ASEAN and other emerging countries.

<Japan’s Promotion of the JCM>

The Japanese government promotes the JCM, as declared by Prime Minister Abe at the 2015 Paris Climate Conference (COP21), where he stated that Japan would utilize the JCM to lower the burden of developing countries to promote diffusion of advanced low-carbon technologies.

Together with the counterpart governments and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the FS aims to clarify and work towards the challenges/ usefulness for promoting the introduction and diffusion of Japan’s low carbon technologies and products in partner countries; the potential of medium- and long-term reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in those countries; and the policies/systems of the countries necessary for the dissemination of the technologies and products.

As a financial inclusion business from Japan, GMS works towards realizing a system in which every individual is correctly evaluated for their work. Through our vision “We make people happy through the provision of mobility service,” we contribute to local societies through our activities in the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia and Japan. In order to create opportunities for the 2 billion people who do not have access to financial services, we, along with our partners, will continue our efforts as a social-problem-solving company.

Please look forward to the future efforts of GMS.
